Shop Update

An update on the Library Friends’ Shop at the Main Library:

For many years, the Friends ran a Shop at the Main Library that sold books, gifts, and cards to library goers. The Library Friends’ Shop at the Main Library was closed before the Covid pandemic in response to declining sales and difficulty finding staff. 

CHPL offered us space for a new shop in the Main Library upon completion of its renovations, but left the decision of whether to reopen to the Friends. 

Our Board of Directors considered the concerns faced by the previous shop and the business impact a new shop would have on the current trajectory of the Friends. After examining the decision on all sides, the Board unanimously voted against the creation of a new shop due to economic and staffing concerns. The Warehouse at 8456 Vine St will remain our only Friends location.

This was a decision made by the Friends’ Board without pressure from the Library. CHPL and the Friends continue to work closely together and have an excellent rapport.

We’re sorry we won’t see you downtown, but we hope you visit us at 8456 Vine St and see the new things happening here!
